Akinola Davies Jr., direction, “My Father’s Shadow,” emerged the biggest winner at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), clinching six awards during the ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites on Saturday.
The film, set around the annulled 1993 Nigerian presidential election, secured awards for Best Overall Movie, Best Director, Best Sound Design, Best Music Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Writing in a Movie.
Actress Linda Ejiofor also made history at the event by winning in both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories.
Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for his role in Colours of Fire, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. The movie also picked up the award for Best Costume Design, while Bucci Franklin won Best Supporting Actor for To Kill a Monkey, which additionally received awards for Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
Lisabi: A Legend Is Born by Lateef Adedimeji won Best Indigenous Movie (West Africa), while Hussaini earned Best Short Film.
Nigerian Idol won Best Unscripted M-Net Original.
The Trailblazer Award went to Uche Montana, while Industry Merit Awards were presented to veteran actors Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo.
